HARTFORD, Conn. — A Hartford man is facing charges in connection with a fatal shooting in January.
The shooting happened on January 11 in the Frog Hollow section of the city. Police were called to the Broad Street and Grand Street area just before 10 a.m. on a ShotSpotter activation.
When police arrived, they found 19-year-old Julius Rivera of Plainville. According to officials, Rivera had been shot and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
He was pronounced dead just after 2 a.m. the following morning.
Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions began investigating the shooting and eventually obtained an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Luis Laboy. The arrest warrant charged Laboy with murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
On Monday, members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Hartford Police Violent Crime Unit located Labot in Hartford and took him into custody.
Laboy was held on a $1.5 million bond.
