HARTFORD, Conn. — A man died after a shooting in Hartford led to a car crash Monday evening, the city's police department said. His two-year-old son was in the back seat of the car and was unharmed.
At 4:18 p.m., Hartford police received a notification about a shooting in the area of Pleasant Street and Main Street, just outside the main entrance of the Dunkin' Park baseball stadium.
Arriving officers found evidence of gunfire and a vehicle with heavy gunfire damage, police said.
Based on a preliminary investigation, investigators learned that a White Honda Accord was stopped at a red traffic light when a suspect's vehicle opened fire multiple times and took off, police said. The Honda then rolled backward after the shooting and crashed into a tree.
Police said the adult driver of the Honda, identified as Dayvon Comeaux, 22, of Hartford, was unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. when first responders arrived and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The man's two-year-old son was in the back car seat and was unharmed, though police said a bullet hole was a few inches from the child's head. He was taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Center for evaluation.
Investigators found the suspect's vehicle shortly after in Tolland, police said.
The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions assumed the investigation.
The homicide marks the 16th of the year in Hartford.
