HARTFORD, Conn. — Earlier this month, the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center received a sizable donation from members of IBEW Local 420.
The local union most recently donated $31,000 to the medical center, which it has been supporting for nearly two decades.
Located in Hartford, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center is a nationally ranked, independent, nonprofit, pediatric hospital.
The medical center is the only health system in the state of Connecticut that is solely dedicated to kids. The health system has more than 40 locations throughout Connecticut, Eastern New York and Western Massachusetts.
Joe Malcarne, business manager of IBEW Local 420, said that the union is proud to be able to support one of the community’s most important institutions.
“By donating over $30,000 to the Children’s Medical Center, we are investing in the health and well-being of the kids who need it the most,” Malcarne said. “Together, we can ensure that every child has access to the care that they need to thrive. It’s a great time, and what’s most important is all the proceeds go to sick children in Connecticut.”
The union said the funds will be used to keep children safer and healthier. They will also support academic research and make more innovative and lifesaving treatments available for Connecticut children.
Each year, the members of IBEW Local 420 organize a golf tournament and raffle to raise money for the medical center. The 2024 tournament was held at Pequabuck Golf Club in Bristol on July 12.
According to Local 420, the union has been donating to the medical center for 18 years. It has now donated a total of over $338,000 during that span.
Local 420 is headquartered in Waterbury and represents over 700 electric, gas and water utility workers at Eversource, Yankee Gas, South Norwalk Electric and Water, NRG Energy, Preferred Utilities, Amphenol RF and First Light.
