HARTFORD, Conn. — A man involved in a Hartford street gang was sentenced Thursday to 36 years in prison after a fatal shooting in the city in August of 2013, according to the Department of Justice.
Antwane Williams-Bey, also known as "Buck," 33, was sentenced after being found guilty on Nov. 2, 2022 of the "drug-related murder," the DOJ said. His time in prison will be followed by five years of supervised release.
On Aug. 12, 2013, Orange Street Killas gang member Williams-Bey fatally shot Valentin Santos Jr., 21, on Linnmoore Street in Hartford, according to the DOJ, citing evidence from the trial. The shooting was in retaliation of a theft involving Williams-Bey's drug stash and money.
Santos was shot 12 times by Williams-Bey, mostly in the back, the DOJ said.
Williams-Bey has since been detained in federal custody since February 2017 and was serving a seven year sentence for distributing heroin and crack.
The DOJ said that while Williams-Bey was awaiting trial for the murder case, he was charged in Rhode Island for participating in a conspiracy to smuggle synthetic marijuana into a detention center in the state where he was being held. He was sentenced to two years in February 2024 after pleading guilty.
