MANCHESTER, Conn. — Two Hartford men were apprehended by law enforcement in Manchester on Tuesday, according to a Wednesday release from the Manchester Police Department.
Frankie Almodovar-Roman, 22, and Junior Jorge, 20, both had active warrants and were taken into custody, according to police.
On Tuesday, members of the Greater Hartford Regional Auto Theft Task Force were working a protective detail in Hartford when they noticed Almodovar-Roman enter a vehicle with three other people, police said.
Members of the task force were aware that Almodovar-Roman had an active felony warrant so they followed the car out of Hartford to Center Springs Park in Manchester, where officers converged on the vehicle and detained all four occupants, police said.
While the occupants were being detained, officers discovered an extended firearm magazine on the backseat floorboard of the vehicle police said, adding that during a subsequent search, they found a “ghost” gun in the passenger compartment.
A ghost gun has no serial number and is an untraceable firearm that is put together by components purchased either as a kit or as separate pieces. They are usually fully functioning guns that are as lethal as fully-finished firearms with a serial number, according to United Against Gun Violence.
Manchester police said that Almodovar-Roman struggled with officers during his arrest and damaged the interior of the police cruiser before transport. He was charged with interfering with an officer and third-degree criminal mischief and was released to the custody of Glastonbury police on an active felony warrant.
Jorge was charged with interfering with a police officer after attempting to hide his identity, police said. He was found to have two outstanding warrants for failure-to-appear and was taken into custody and held on bond.
Manchester police said more charges are expected regarding the seized firearm.
