HARTFORD, Conn. — A man was arrested after taking off from the scene of a crash that left a woman dead in Hartford Sunday morning, according to the city's police department.
Clarence Cross, 45, of Hartford, is facing charges of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility involving death, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle without a license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and illegal operation of a motor vehicle without insurance.
At 6:11 a.m., officers went to the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Adelaide Street in Hartford for the crash involving an overturned Jeep SUV and a Toyota minivan.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as Tonyque Davis, 23, of Portland, was removed from the vehicle by the Hartford Fire Department and was unresponsive.
She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The Toyota driver of the minivan took off from the scene before an emergency crew could arrive, according to police. It was noted that multiple people were inside the minivan at the time.
In an update Monday, police said Cross was identified as the suspect who was driving the Toyota at the time of the crash. Officers found and arrested him Sunday night.
Hartford Police Department Crime Scene Division detectives are leading the investigation.
