SIMSBURY, Conn — A LIFE STAR helicopter brought one person to the hospital after a car fire that spread to part of a home in Simsbury Wednesday, according to the town's police department.
At 4:40 p.m., police said emergency crews from Simsbury, Avon and Canton responded to Quorn Hunt Road for a fire at a home that left one person injured.
Arriving firefighters found a vehicle on fire in the driveway and found that the fire spread to the garage and to the leaves on the ground, Simsbury firefighters said.
Fire crews knocked down the fire, containing it to a two-car garage and the car, according to police.
Neighbors and first responders attended to the burn victim, according to police. An ambulance and LIFE STAR helicopter brought them to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment. Their condition is currently unknown.
The burn victim was not a resident of the home, according to police.
"There was a minor grass fire that was associated with the car fire that was extinguished rather quickly," Simsbury Fire Chief Todd Myers said. "Because we are in a non-hydrant area, we did request assistance from our neighbors- Avon and Canton. And they did respond with water tankers."
Myers added that crews went into the home to make sure no fire was inside the garage and kept the doors closed to prevent smoke damage inside.
The Simsbury Fire Marshal's Office, State Fire Marshal's Office and Simsbury Police are investigating the incident.
