NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — One person was taken to the hospital after being rescued with a ladder during a New Britain house fire Wednesday afternoon, according to city officials.
According to Peter Towey, Assistant Fire Chief, fire crews were called at 1:06 p.m. to a 2-alarm fire on Dover Road with a report of people trapped inside. First responders to the scene found a heavy fire in the rear of the building.
Firefighters who were searching the second floor found and rescued one person from the home with a ladder, Towey said. The individual was taken to the hospital and their condition is unknown at this time.
A second person was being treated by people outside, the mayor's office said.
The bulk of the fire was put out within 15-20 minutes after arrival. Towey said that "crews did a great job making a big push," and that they were "cleaning up" by remaining on scene for an extended amount of time.
The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire and Red Cross has been notified.
All available New Britain fire units responded to the fire, along with mutual aid from surrounding town fire departments including Hartford, Bristol, and West Hartford.
