New Britain firefighters respond to early morning fatal house fire

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — One person has died after a house caught fire in New Britain early Saturday morning.

New Britain firefighters arrived at a home on Chapman Street around 6:30 a.m. for a report of a house fire, the mayor's office said.

Arriving crews saw heavy fire coming from the second-floor bedroom. The fire took about 20 minutes to bring under control, officials said.

One person was rescued, but someone who was in the room on fire died, according to officials. The victim has not been identified at this time.

It is not clear how many people were in the home at the time of the fire.

The fire chief and fire marshal reported to the scene. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
