Prank turns into vandalism in Plainville

A front door was damaged in Plainville, leaving the homeowners shaken up.

PLAINVILLE, Conn. — An unusual twist on a prank that left the front door of a Plainville home damaged was all caught on camera Monday.

Stephanie Norman, a Plainville resident, said she and her boyfriend were woken up at 3:45 a.m. on Monday morning when they heard a crash sound at their front door.

That sound triggered their doorbell camera.

“We immediately checked the cameras that we have around the house and I noticed it was a couple of kids,” Norman said.

She said the kids opened up the screen door, began whacking the inside door and then took off running.

When Norman and her boyfriend woke up later Monday morning, they went outside and saw damage to their front door.

“We looked closer, and they actually had a hammer with them and one of the kids was banging on the door with the hammer,” Norman said. "You can see in the footage that right before he hit the door, he was talking to the other kid about the hammer.”

Norman said it was odd the teens chose their home and that bringing a hammer into the situation is scary.

She wants the teen found.

“You know we definitely want the damages paid for and we don’t want this to happen to anyone else obviously," Norman said.
