SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. — Home Market Foods, a U.S. food manufacturing company, is expanding to South Windsor with the purchase of a production plant opening in 2025, according to a press release made public on Monday.

The release said that the company purchased the former Carla's Pasta production plant and is investing $70 million to transform it into an upgraded meat production facility.

HMF estimates 210 jobs will be required to run the facility by the end of 2027. According to the release, the company has already begun recruiting for positions including "engineers, maintenance workers, managers, technicians, warehouse and production line workers."

South Windsor Mayor Audrey Delnicki said, "This will create jobs both in construction, and in the operation of the facility and secure future tax revenue. We look forward to Home Market Foods' success in our community and we welcome them to South Windsor."

The facility is expected to be opened by June 2025, equipped with machinery and technology upgrades focused on "ensuring the highest quality and food safety standards are maintained through the production process," the release said.

"Home Market Foods is thrilled to expand our manufacturing operations to the state of Connecticut which has a long-standing record of hosting some of the greatest manufacturing companies in the country and to work so closely with the Town of South Windsor to expand its base of jobs and community support," said CEO Doug Atamian.

According to the release, the company decided on South Windsor as the location of its new plant based on multiple factors, including "availability of skilled labor," a "favorable business climate," "proximity to key distribution channels" and support from the town and state.

Gov. Ned Lamont, noting that he was "delighted" the company chose Connecticut out of the locations nationwide the company could consider, said, "I would like to acknowledge the many organizations that helped present Connecticut's value proposition to Home Market Foods during this process; Connecticut's DECD, AdvanceCT, Mayor Audrey Delnicki of South Windsor, Eversource, and MetroHartford Alliance. Team Connecticut was in full effect on this project and we are thrilled with the outcome."

Home Market Foods is the top manufacturer of meatballs in the U.S. and a supplier to convenience stores and food service programs, the release said.

The company is planning on a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a taste-testing event when the facility opens.
