WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — A teacher at the New England Jewish Academy in West Hartford is suspected of inappropriately touching a student, according to a release from the West Hartford Police Department on Friday.
Roger Katz, 47, of Thomaston, was arrested on Thursday and charged with one count of fourth-degree sexual assault by a school employee where the victim is under 16 years of age, one count of risk of injury to a child, and one count of second-degree breach of peace, police said.
On June 6, the Department of Children and Families notified West Hartford police that a teacher from the academy may have inappropriately touched a minor, according to police. When the complaint was received, the police department’s Detective Division began investigating.
Police said an arrest warrant was sought charging Katz with the violations after an investigation was completed. They obtained a signed arrest warrant and arrested Katz.
Katz was unable to post his court-set $200,000 surety bond and was taken to Hartford Superior Court on Friday for arraignment, according to police.
Police ask any member of the public who has information regarding the incident, or similar incidents, to contact the police department through the WHPD Tip Line/email at 860-570-8969 / whpdtips@westharfordct.gov.
