WINDSOR, Conn — An Enfield man is dead after the motorcycle he was riding on crashed on Interstate 91, state police said.

The crash happened around 11:20 p.m. Monday on I-91 northbound in Windsor, near exit 38. State police said a Dodge Ram pickup truck was driving on the highway on the northbound side in the furthest right lane.

Police said 33-year-old Jonathan Schlagel drove directly behind the truck on his Sprint RS Triumph bike.

According to officials, the Schlagel crashed into the back of the pick-up truck and was thrown from the bike. Another vehicle, a Hyundai Sante Fe, was driving behind the truck and bike and crashed into Schlagel.

State police said the truck and SUV came to a stop on the right shoulder of the highway as the bike landed in the grass between the HOV lane and travel lanes of the highway.

The driver of the truck didn't report any injuries, and the driver of the SUV reported minor injuries, according to state police.

Schlagel was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.

The SUV could drive away from the scene while the truck and bike were towed due to the damage.

The crash resulted in I-91 North closing for a few hours overnight into early Tuesday morning for the investigation, but it's since reopened.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or may have dash camera footage of the crash is asked to contact Trooper Michael Dean at Troop H, 860-534-1098 or through email at michael.dean@ct.gov.
