WINDSOR, Connecticut — Two young people are in custody after a fatal shooting in Windsor, according to police.
The shooting happened just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday at a home on Bloomfield Avenue. The Windsor Police Department got a 911 call with "minimal information," stating that the incident was "domestic-related" before disconnecting the call. No one picked up when the department tried calling back.
A responding Windsor officer reported hearing gunfire as he neared the home. When he got to the scene, he saw a male and female rush into a blue Honda Accord at the end of the driveway. They sped off and the officer tried following but eventually lost sight of the car.
Other Windsor officers also got to the scene and found another man lying on the ground, shot multiple times. He was rushed to Hartford Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
Investigators immediately got to work trying to find the suspects and the car. Information regarding the description of the car was broadcast to surrounding departments. The Bloomfield Police Department began receiving 911 calls regarding a crash at the intersection of East Wintonbury Avenue and Barry Circle.
When officers got to the scene of the crash, they found it was unoccupied, and the suspects ran from the scene.
Windsor investors confirmed that the car involved in the crash was the same one they sought.
Officers set up a perimeter around the crash and began a search for the suspects. They used a regional drone team and K9 units along with state police, but the suspects were not found.
Just before 11 p.m., both suspects were found by West Hartford police on New Park Avenue and were taken into custody. Windsor officials said the suspects' identities are being withheld due to their age.
Windsor police said there is no threat to the community, but Windsor residents may see additional patrols as part of the ongoing homicide investigation. Anyone with information related to this shooting is asked to call the Windsor Police Department at 860-688-5273.
