CONNECTICUT, USA — Gov. Ned Lamont declared Connecticut the 'Foodie Capital of New England' on Thursday after celebrating the achievements of the culinary community with the James Beard Award nominations.
The Port of Call chef Renee Touponce made history as Connecticut’s first nominee for ‘Outstanding Chef,’ and secured her place alongside the culinary elite.
West Hartford’s Coracora received another nomination for ‘Outstanding Restaurant,’ for the second year in a row as a James Beard Award semi-finalist.
Chef David Standridge of The Shipwright’s Daughter was also honored with a nomination.
"It just reminds me about Connecticut – you think oh my god if you want diversity, you have to go to New York – no, you don’t – come right here," said Lamont.
