WOODBURY, Conn. — A man is in custody Tuesday after turning himself in on charges connected to a Woodbury crash in July 2023 that left one person dead and two injured, Connecticut State Police said.
According to state police, Isiah Turner, 25, of Ansonia, is facing charges of manslaughter in the second degree with a motor vehicle, assault in the second degree with a motor vehicle, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to drive upon right side of roadway and failure to wear a seat belt.
In an arrest warrant, state police said that around 10 a.m. on July 29, 2023 in Woodbury, a grey Subaru Baja was traveling west along Route 6 near Woodbury Place when a silver Dodge Dakota pickup truck going east crossed the double yellow lines and hit the Subaru head on.
The driver of the Subaru, identified as Robert Gardner of Woodbury, died from injuries in the crash, according to state police.
A passenger in the Subaru was left with serious, life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the Dodge, identified as Turner, had non-life-threatening injuries.
In the warrant, state police said that they obtained "probable cause" to believe that Turner was driving under the influence on the day of the crash when he collided with the Subaru. Evidence included medical records that showed he tested positive for cocaine, oxycodone, cannabinoids and a BAC of .03%, as well as a report from the CSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad and witness statements.
Turner was held on a $200,000 bond and was scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday at Waterbury Superior Court.
