HARTFORD, Conn. — A Southbury man was sentenced on Thursday in Hartford to five years in federal prison for illegally possessing sawed-off shotguns and silencers, according to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Court documents and statements note that just before midnight on March 13, 2023, Torrington police were alerted that Englehardt used a rifle to shoot a hole in the ceiling of a Torrington residence. He then left that residence.

Prosecutors say that, at the time, Englehardt was subject to a protective order issued by the Waterbury Superior Court requiring him to surrender all his guns and ammunition.

Around 12:30 a.m. on March 14, 2023, Connecticut State Police stopped Englehardt’s vehicle, placed him in custody and charged him with multiple offenses.

According to prosecutors, later that day, a search of Englehardt’s Southbury home found 10 guns, six silencers, over 1,000 rounds of ammunition and different firearms parts and accessories. Three of the guns were sawed off-shotguns and were not registered in accordance with the National Firearms Act. The six silencers were not registered either.
