WEST GLACIER, Mont. — The body of a missing mountaineer native to Wethersfield was found in Montana's Glacier National Park, according to the National Park Service Tuesday.
Grant Marcuccio, 32, of Whitefish, Mont., was found 2 p.m. Sunday by a Two Bear Air rescue crew. While the cause of death is under investigation, his location and traumatic injuries indicate that he fell, NPS said.
Marcuccio was with a hiking party on Aug. 18 at 1 p.m. before heading for a solo summit of McPartland Peak from Heavens Peak, according to NPS. He had arranged to meet with the party at a location afterwards, but rangers were told later that evening that he never showed up.
A search effort began on Aug. 19 involving air and ground rescue teams. On Sunday, Marcuccio was found "one-third of a mile east of McPartland Peak below the ridgeline between Heavens Peak and McPartland Peak," NPS said.
The body was taken to the Flathead County coroner.
North Valley and Flathead Valley County Search and Rescue, USFS, US Geological Survey, Flathead County Sheriff’s Department, Two Bear Air Rescue, NPS and individuals who provided tips were credited for their roles in the search effort.
