NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. — Three firefighters suffered burn injuries, including one taken to the hospital, after a house fire in North Branford early Wednesday, officials said.
At 2:52 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to a house fire on Totoket Road, according to the North Branford Fire Department.
Arriving firefighters found heavy fire showing from the front and left side of the home. There were initially reports of people inside at the time of the fire but firefighters determined no one was inside.
As firefighters worked to contain the fire, the first floor collapsed, forcing crews to exit the home, the fire department said. The fire spread to the attic through a window on the left side of the building, causing the roof to also collapse.
The fire department requested mutual aid tankers from Durham, Wallingford, Madison, and Guilford to the scene. East Haven helped to provide station coverage during the fire.
Firefighters placed the fire under control at 4:31 a.m. According to the fire department, the home was lost in the fire.
Three firefighters were treated for burns, with one taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, the fire department said.
The North Branford Fire Marshal's Office and the North Branford Police Department are investigating the fire.
