NAUGATUCK, Conn. — Bomb threats led to evacuations at the Walmart and Stop and Shop stores in Naugatuck Monday, according to the town's police department. Business resumed at the locations after being cleared by police.
Police said at 3:45 p.m., they were called to the Walmart store on 1100 New Haven Road after a store employee received a report about a bomb threat over the phone. The threat included that a bomb was in the bathroom and was set to go off in two minutes.
The store was evacuated, police said. Connecticut State Police Bomb Detection K9s searched the area but no bombs or explosives were found.
Police said that while officers were responding to the Walmart bomb threat, they were also called to the the Stop and Shop store on 727 Rubber Avenue after a store employee reported to police about a bomb threat made over the phone. Police dispatch also received a call with a person claiming that a bomb was placed in the store bathroom and that they were armed with a gun.
An evacuation at the Stop & Shop was made and Connecticut State Police bomb detection resources were sent to the scene, according to police.
The Walmart was cleared at 5 p.m. by the police bomb detection K9s, followed by Stop & Shop at 5:45 p.m., allowing for normal business to resume, police said.
