HAMDEN, Conn. — A person was arrested in Hamden Wednesday afternoon after allegedly firing a pellet gun at officers, the town's police department said.
Police said they were first called to Spruce Bank Road at 4:55 p.m. after a person who was fishing at the time said they had been shot in the arm by a person with a BB gun. Officers were also told that the suspect drove away from the scene in a vehicle.
After officers were unable to find the suspect in the area, police said they went to the area of Ives Street and Spruce Bank Road at 6:48 p.m. after receiving a 911 call that a person had been shot.
According to police, an individual was found with serious but non-life-threatening injuries "consistent with having been shot multiple times," including to the face. They were later taken to the hospital.
Officers also found a 47-year-old male suspect who was still at the scene of the reported shooting, threatening to hurt himself with a pellet gun that at first appeared to be a rifle, police said.
After going behind cover and attempting to talk to the suspect, police said that the officers were fired at "numerous times." The suspect also shot and damaged Hamden police cars with the pellets.
According to police, the suspect was arrested after being hit by officers with "less lethal bean bag projectiles" and taken to a hospital for evaluation. He is currently under guard and is expected to be charged at a later time.
