MERIDEN, Conn — Police in Meriden said an argument Thursday afternoon led to an assault and a report of a kidnapping. The claim of a kidnapping turned out to be unfounded.
Police said around 3 p.m., they received several 911 calls about an assault and possible kidnapping on Golden Street. The callers told police that there were a half dozen people involved and that one was possibly armed with a handgun.
Patrol Officers responded to Golden Street and found an empty vehicle. They went to the address listed on the registration and found a man who said he was involved in the altercation.
Security video in the area of the assault showed there was no kidnapping; however, an assault did occur where a young girl was struck in the head, according to police. It did appear that one of the men in the video possibly had a firearm.
With the help of the Waterbury Police Department, a vehicle was identified, and the juvenile female was eventually located in Southington.
Police learned the initial assault between the juvenile female and the man was the result of an argument over a vehicle. At this time, the investigation is ongoing, and all parties have been identified.
Police did not say if anyone was charged in the incident.
