New Haven police identify man killed in shooting

Police said they received calls about a person in a vehicle who appeared to have been following a man on a dirt bike before shooting him.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven police are investigating a fatal shooting Wednesday.

Police said they went to the area of Ferry Street and Wolcott Street at 12:03 p.m. after receiving calls about someone in a vehicle who appeared to have been following a man on a dirt bike before shooting him.

Arriving officers found a shooting victim, identified as Niygere Wicker, 21, of New Haven. An ambulance brought him to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Police said they have identified the suspect vehicle. They are asking anyone with information to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or through the department's anonymous tip-line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
