WALLINGFORD, Conn. — A fatal motorcycle crash occurred on Interstate 91 southbound in Wallingford early Saturday morning, according to Connecticut State Police.
The three-vehicle crash happened less than half a mile north of Exit 13 around 2:03 a.m., state police report. Marcellino Phillip Anthony Turcio, 22, was pronounced dead on scene by the Wallingford Fire Department at 2:16 a.m. due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Turcio was from Northford, a village in North Branford.
State police say Turcio was operating a 2006 Kawasaki Zx636-c1 motorcycle on I-91. A 2018 Buick Cascada being driven by a Naugatuck resident and an unknown vehicle, whose driver later fled the scene, were reportedly traveling in the same direction.
Investigators believe the Cascada was traveling in the right lane on the three-lane highway when it was struck from behind by the motorcycle. State police say that Turcio was then separated from the motorcycle and run over by the unknown vehicle, which was traveling in the center lane.
Both the Cascada and motorcycle sustained disabling damage and were towed away. State police say the collision is under investigation as they try to identify the driver who evaded the scene.
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation or who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Trooper Patrick Miko at CSP Troop 1, 203-393-4200, or patrick.miko.ct.gov.
