Shooting at Waterbury courthouse leaves 1 dead; victim identified

Police believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no threat or danger to the public.

WATERBURY, Conn. — A person died after being shot outside of the Waterbury courthouse midday Thursday.

Waterbury police responded to 400 Grand Street around 11:45 a.m. for a report of someone shot outside.

Police found a man with injuries from gunshots and the man was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died from his wounds. Police identified the victim as Jarron Chapman, 26, of Waterbury.

Police said Chapman was at court proceedings earlier in the day and was shot as he was leaving the courthouse. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no threat or danger to the public at this time.
