WATERBURY, Conn. — Waterbury police collectively arrested five people in separate stolen car investigations over the past week, according to the city's police department Wednesday.
Police said they recently responded to and made arrests in separate stolen car incidents on Nov. 7, Nov. 11 and Nov. 12.
On Nov. 7 at 1:42 p.m., police said they were patrolling the area of Dorchester Avenue when they spotted a black Nissan Armada that was reported stolen from Waterbury.
Police arrested the two people inside the car, identified as Jerry Acosta, 32, and Wanda Perez, 67, both of Waterbury.
Acosta is facing charges of larceny of a motor vehicle; first offense and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Perez is facing a charge of larceny of a motor vehicle; first offense and posted bail.
On Nov. 11 at 9:04 a.m., police were in the area of Grove Street and Willow Street and came across a 2004 Ford Econoline that was reported stolen from Southington.
During a traffic stop, police said they searched the Ford and found drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine.
Officers determined that the person in the vehicle, identified as Jeffery Fennelly, 40, of Watertown, had over 20 previous larceny arrests, "burglary and robbery arrests and several assaults, including assault on an officer." He also had a warrant for violation of probation.
Fennelly is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance, use of drug paraphernalia, larceny of a motor vehicle; second offense and illegal operation of motor vehicle under suspension. He is currently in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections on a $67,500 bond.
On Nov. 12 at 4:38 p.m., officers were in the area of Union Street when they found a red Hyundai Elantra that they said had been reported stolen from Waterbury.
Police identified the two people in the Hyundai as Juan Luis Angueira, 25, and Joely Padilla-Nnunez, 22, both of Waterbury.
Angueira is facing charges of misuse of marker plates, larceny of a motor vehicle; first offense, operating a motor vehicle without a license, intefering with an officer and criminal trover in the first degree. Police said he also had a violation of parole warrant and was taken into custody at the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
Padilla is facing charges of larceny of a motor vehicle; first offense and criminal trover in the first degree, was held on a $10,000 bond and posted bail.
