WATERBURY, Conn. — Waterbury police arrested a man on charges including assaulting an officer and attempted car theft, according to a release Monday.
David Hernandez, 19, of Waterbury is facing charges of assault on an officer, drinking while driving, interfering with an officer, criminal mischief in the first degree, operating a motor vehicle without a license and unsafe movement of a stopped vehicle.
He is currently in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections on a $250,000 bond, police said.
At 10:04 a.m. on Dec. 10, police responded to Wood Street for a domestic disturbance complaint from a woman who said her son, identified as Hernandez, was attempting to steal her vehicle.
Arriving officers found Hernandez inside the vehicle and asked him to step outside, according to police. Hernandez allegedly refused to listen to the officers' commands, putting the vehicle in drive and attempting to take off.
Police said an officer was partially pinned between the vehicle and a patrol car. They were able to access the vehicle's brake pedal and bring it to a stop.
Officers brought Hernandez into custody after a "brief struggle," according to police. EMS evaluated Hernandez and determined he was uninjured.
One of the officers involved in the incident had multiple abrasions from the incident, police said. They were taken to a hospital and later released after receiving treatment.
