WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Four people were killed and two people were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a wrong-way crash early Sunday morning on I-95 in West Haven, according to Connecticut State Police.
At 1:25 a.m., troopers arrived on I-95 South for a report of a car collision later found to be the result of a wrong-way driver, state police said.
Based on a preliminary investigation, state police determined that a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was going in the wrong direction on I-95, traveling north in the southbound lanes. They collided with a Nissan Altima going south. The Silverado then went into the center lane and hit a Nissan Sentra also going south.
Four people died of their injuries. The driver of the Nissan Altima was 25-year-old Husein Alili from Wolcott and he was killed along with two of his passengers, 23-year-old Jolie Lubin from Trumbull and 22-year-old Samanta Birchard from Norwalk. The driver of the Silverado, 26-year-old New Haven resident Kyle Bulkley, was also killed in the crash.
Two people inside the Sentra were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and their current conditions are unknown at this time.
State police said more information regarding the crash will be released in a press release within the coming days. Anyone with details is asked to contact Trooper Falstoe #849 at 203-696-2500 or nicholas.falstoe@ct.gov.
I-95 south in the area of exit 42 was shutdown at 1:25 a.m. while the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad investigated the crash, but it was reopened as of 7:40 a.m., state police said.
