GROTON, Conn. — The suspect accused of killing a Connecticut news anchor's mother in her Vermont home earlier this year has been found in Groton, Conn.
U.S. Marshals, along with Groton and state police, located Shawn Conlon, 44, early Wednesday morning at the Gold Star Inn & Suites in Groton.
Conlon was wanted out of Vermont in connection to the strangulation death of Claudia Voight, 73. She was killed in her Windham, Vermont, home on Feb. 20.
Law enforcement officials initially believed she suffered from a medical event but later determined she died from neck compression that was detectable only during an autopsy.
Conlon was held as a fugitive from justice by Groton Town Police and was later taken to court for arraignment. It is not clear when he will be extradited to Vermont to face the murder charges.
Voight was the mother of Heidi Voight, an NBC Connecticut news anchor and Miss Connecticut 2006.
Heidi Voight did not immediately return an email message Wednesday. On her Facebook page, she posted “HALLELUJAH.”
The motive for the killing has not been disclosed.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
