Groton woman dies after being found unresponsive by New London police

​The state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause and manner of death.

GROTON, Conn — A woman died after being found by police "bleeding and unresponsive" in New London, according to the city's police department Monday.

Police said that they, alongside the city's fire department, went to the parking lot of 48 Ocean Ave. in New London on Friday at 10:47 p.m. after receiving a report about a woman who was injured.

The woman was given medical aid by first responders and was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

It is currently unclear how the woman was injured.

In an update Monday, police said the woman, identified as Lindsay Melher, 46, of Groton, died of her injuries.

The state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause and manner of death as the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked by police to contact the New London Police Department Detective Bureau at 860-447-1481. Tips can be submitted anonymously via the New London Tips 411 system.
