NEW LONDON, Conn. — A 29-year-old man was sentenced on Friday to 20 years in prison for a 2019 shooting in New London, according to a release from the state’s Division of Criminal Justice.
Shaquan Lee-Seales, formerly of New London, was found guilty on Feb. 20 of 10 charges, including two counts of conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of accessory to attempted murder, risk of injury to a minor and inciting injury to persons, the release said.
Prosecutors said that on Nov. 24, 2019, three individuals, later identified as Bless Seales, Sakye Reels and Kion Wilbur, covered their faces while walking near Third Avenue in New London. One of the individuals approached a building at 168 Third Avenue, suddenly turned and ran, and a surveillance camera depicted a crack in the second-floor street-side window, according to the release.
The New London Police Department received a 911 call for shots being fired into that residence, and police found the broken window and a projectile resting on a closet shelf, prosecutors said.
Lee-Seales was already in prison because of an unrelated matter and had been placed on phone and mail review, according to the release, which said that a review of phone conversations and written correspondence revealed that he coordinated the shooting to kill his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.
The 20-year sentence was imposed in New London and will run consecutively to the prison sentence that Lee-Seales is already serving.
“The state believes the sentence reflects the serious and shocking nature of Mr. Seales’ conduct,” State’s Attorney Paul Narducci said, in the release.
