NEW LONDON, Conn. — A New London police officer is on administrative leave after police arrested him on charges associated with domestic violence, the New London Police Department said Sunday.
On Saturday, police arrested Officer Julio Gil-Martinez, 29, who is facing charges of threatening in the second degree, assault in the third degree, strangulation in the second degree, unlawful restraint in the first degree and interfering with an emergency call. New London Superior Court set a $75,000 bond.
On Nov. 14 at 5 p.m., Waterford police notified New London police about a victim who had reported a domestic violence incident that happened in New London.
At the same time, a member of the New London Police Department reported a domestic violence incident that happened in New London to the city's police department, according to police.
The New London Police Department's Investigative Services Division, along with the Office of the State's Attorney New London Judicial District, conducted an investigation, police said.
"Please be assured that we take matters like this very seriously, and we are committed to addressing this matter with the highest level of diligence," New London police said. "Our department is deeply committed to supporting victims of domestic violence. We want to emphasize that we are here to provide assistance and resources to anyone affected by such incidents. We encourage victims to come forward and seek help, knowing that their safety and well-being are our top priorities."
