WEST HAVEN, Conn. — While the Notre Dame High School and Hillhouse High School football teams battled on the gridiron Friday evening, a serious fight broke out off the field.
Around 8:25 p.m., officers who were working the game at Veterans Memorial Field in West Haven observed fighting amongst several teens near the field, according to Sgt. Scott Allard of the West Haven Police Department.
Allard says the officers requested further police assistance as the group of fighting teens grew larger.
The fights grew large enough that the officers on scene called for mutual aid. Mutual aid was provided by law enforcement personnel from the University of New Haven, Milford Police Department, Orange Police Department and Connecticut State Police.
As officers broke up the fights and removed the participants from the scene, multiple arrests were made, Allard reports.
“During these scuffles, several police officers sustained minor injuries,” Allard said, without providing further details regarding their condition.
This is a developing story. FOX61 will provide an update when one is made available.
