NORTH HAVEN — A 6-year-old boy from Meriden died after he was ejected from a pickup truck that rolled over in a crash on Interstate 91 in North Haven on Christmas morning.
Police said a 2000 Toyota Tundra with a snowplow attached, driven by Lexsis Ariel Walter, 23, of Meriden, was headed south on I-91 at around 8:35 a.m. when it slid into the center median. It rolled over a number of times and crossed into the northbound side of the highway before it finally came to a stop.
The North Haven Fire Department said that it seems the truck slid on black ice, leading it to flip over.
Two other children were injured and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police said Walter and the two older children, ages 13 and 11, weren’t as seriously injured because they were all wearing seatbelts, but 6-year-old Noah McCoy wasn’t wearing a seat-belt, nor sitting in a car seat, and he was thrown from the truck.
He was taken to a Yale-New Haven Hospital where he later died. Police said that Noah McCoy’s guardian was at the hospital.
The crash is still under investigation and any witnesses are encouraged to contact police.
