WILLIMANTIC — Two men, accused in a weekend murder in Willimantic, were caught Tuesday in Arizona following a nationwide manhunt.
According to Connecticut State Police, with help from Homeland Security, US Border Patrol, US Marshals Office, and the Phoenix Police Department Fugitive Task Force, both suspects were arrested in Maricopa County.
Police believe Juan Chach, 24, and Ignacio Chach-Aperez, 26, are responsible for the murder of Francisco Delazcruz-Coj, who was killed at his Willimantic home on Saturday morning.
At around 3 a.m. Saturday, police went to the apartment on Pulaski Court for a disturbance. Police found Delazcruz-Coj suffering from life-threatening injuries and provided aid. EMS also responded to the scene, and pronounced him dead. The State Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
Juan Chach, who goes by “Chach,” will be charged with murder and tampering with evidence. Chach-Aperez, who goes by “Nacho,” will be charged with being an accessory to murder and tampering with evidence.
They will be extradited to Connecticut to face charges. There is no date set for their return as they will need to go through the Arizona Court System process before returning to Connecticut, police said. Bail will be set at $1,000,000 for both men.
