HARTFORD — Police identified a man identified as a person of interest in the killing of the sister of a retired Bristol police captain in her home, and then later killing himself in a Hartford motel.
Police said they found 59-year-old Gale McIntyre dead in her Bristol home Monday night at around 7 p.m. Officials said it appears that McIntyre, who is the sister of retired city police Capt. Dan McIntyre, died of injuries from blunt force trauma.
Tips led investigators to focus on McIntyre’s 44-year old neighbor, Robert Newman. Newman was found dead Monday at around 11:30 p.m at the Travel Inn Motel on Weston Street in Hartford. Officials said he hanged himself.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Court records indicate Newman had been out on bond on charges he sexually assaulted a woman in his car after offering to give her a ride. Newman was scheduled to enter a plea in that case next month.
