Setting the stage for the 2024 Travelers Championship 'Signature Event'

At the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, the build is on for the 2024 Travelers Championship.

CROMWELL, Conn. — Before the PGA’s heaviest hitters tee off at the 2024 Travelers Championship, there is a lot of heavy lifting that goes into it.

With just two weeks before the championship, the build is on. A crew of around 200 are currently lining the course putting up stands and skyboxes, tents and pop-up shops.

Kevin Harrington, senior director of operations at the Travelers Championship, said, “Things have really gone well, and we are heading into the homestretch here. We have got a busy week this week and we have probably doubled the number of contractors on site this week -- we will probably add another 50 percent next week.”

As construction teams are hammering out their plans to put in the remaining stands, from the 18th hole, tournament director Nathan Grube said, “This is a regional event on the global stage. The world is watching us for that week and when we can show them this is what Connecticut does when we have a professional sports franchise.”

In 2024, the Travelers Championship has been given “Signature” status by the PGA. “As a signature event it’s no cut, a 20-million-dollar purse, the top players in the world and it’s going to be special.”

With more than 175 area charities benefiting from the Travelers Championship's success, Grube said, “if we do this well more money is going to charity from a community standpoint.” He then added, “it’s a really a special story for our region.”
