MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — A Connecticut State Police sergeant involved in a car crash with a police cruiser in Brookfield last year has been fired from the force.
Catherine Koeppel was "separated" from the Connecticut State Police last month, on Oct. 9, according to a media spokesperson for state police.
State police have made a referral to the Police Officer Standards and Training Council for a potential POST decertification, per the police accountability act, officials said.
Koeppel was a member of the Connecticut State Police since October 2008, state police said.
On the evening of July 2022, Koeppel was off duty in a state police vehicle when the cruiser rear-ended a car at the intersection of Route 7 and Route 202. No injuries were reported at the time.
After the crash, Koeppel was suspended and assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the case. Koeppel was also issued a misdemeanor summons for charges including following too close and evading responsibility.
FOX61 has requested the internal affairs report from Connecticut State Police.
