PLAINVILLE, Conn. — A Bristol man was arrested for threatening a tow truck driver with a firearm in a turnaround on Route 72 in Plainville earlier this week, according to Connecticut State Police.
Troopers were called to Route 72 West in Plainville on Monday afternoon for a report of a "suspicious incident."
Responding troopers met with a tow truck driver who was responding to a service call on Route 72 East and used an emergency turnaround area to reach where they needed to go.
As the tow truck entered the turnaround, a car traveling west sped into the turnaround and nearly collided with the tow truck, the tow truck driver told state police.
The car driver, identified as Kevin Perez, 30, then took out a firearm and pointed it at the tow truck driver, the tow truck driver told troopers. Perez left the area before state police arrived.
State police were able to reach Perez by phone, where he said he was involved but told state police he did not point his firearm at the tow truck driver.
Perez was taken into custody at his home, where state police found a handgun and ammunition and seized it as evidence.
Perez was charged with threatening, criminal use of weapon, breach of peace and improper turn. He was released on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 1.
State police advise drivers that authorized and emergency vehicles are the only vehicles allowed to use turnarounds on limited-access highways.
