STAFFORD, Connecticut — Two minors were arrested Tuesday morning after crashing a stolen vehicle in Stafford, according to a release from Connecticut State Police.

State police report that around 7 a.m., the Willimantic Police Department contacted Troop C in Tolland to inform them that a 2019 Jeep Compass was stolen from Main Street in Willimantic. Willimantic police said that the vehicle was last seen heading north on Route 32 toward Mansfield.

The release said troopers saw the Jeep traveling north on Route 32 through Mansfield and into Willington. At that point, a trooper tried to pull over the stolen vehicle north of the intersection of Route 32 and Route 74, but the Jeep was traveling at such a high rate of speed that the trooper stopped the attempt in the interest of public safety.

State police said that a short time later, another trooper witnessed the Jeep continuing northbound on Route 32 towards Stafford. Before the trooper caught up to the vehicle to initiate a second attempt at a traffic stop, the Jeep collided head-on with another vehicle, which was traveling south on Route 32, according to the release.

“Both occupants of the stolen vehicle attempted to flee on foot and were apprehended shortly thereafter,” the release said. “All parties involved in the accident sustained minor injuries and were transported for medical treatment.”

State police noted that both occupants of the stolen Jeep were minors. Both individuals were issued a juvenile summons and will appear at the Willimantic and New Haven Juvenile Court, respectively, next Wednesday.

The release said Willimantic police were alerted that the stolen vehicle was located.
