BOLTON, Conn. — Law enforcement officials released more information and video of the shooting by a Connecticut State Trooper in Bolton last week.
The incident unfolded at a home on Meadow Road in Bolton around 2:15 p.m. on March 1 when state police troopers received a call about a 29-year-old man experiencing a mental health crisis.
At the time of the incident, state police said the troopers were responding to an “assist citizen” call.
According to the Office of Inspector General, the family of Maxim Nowak called the police because he was threatening to harm himself and others and was waving a knife.
Troopers Wendy Garcia-Campos, Doug Bernier and Brian Contenta responded to the home. They found Nowak near the main hall of the home, armed with two knives.
Video from Contenta’s body camera released Tuesday shows the troopers attempting multiple times to convince Nowak to drop the knives.
After some back and forth between Nowak and the troopers, the 29-year-old can be seen raising the knife in his left hand. It was at this point that Bernier shot his stun gun and Contenta fired his handgun multiple times.
In the video, at least seven gunshots can be heard.
Nowak was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he continues to recover. The investigation remains ongoing.
