COVENTRY, Conn. — The death of a dog that was found on the side of the road in Coventry was determined to not have been caused by gunshot wounds as originally believed, the town's police department said Tuesday.
An investigation found that the dog, located in a plastic bin on South Street near Route 6 on March 2, did not have gunshot injuries, but instead sustained "other traumatic injuries" and was emaciated, police said.

Previous information from police included that the dog was a 50-55 pound dark grey female pit bull with cropped ears and white paws, and appeared to have recently given birth to puppies.
The dog is believed to have been left on the side of the road for multiple days before being found, police said.
Police said that they are continuing to search for leads in their investigation, and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 860-742-7331 or via their anonymous TIPS line at 860-742-2400.
