HEBRON, Conn. — A man was arrested Friday after a woman was killed in a hit-and-run in Hebron on Feb. 4, according to Connecticut State Police.
Jesse Scrivano, 29, of Lebanon, is facing charges of illegally operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, illegally operating a motor vehicle under suspension, reckless driving, evading responsibility death, illegally operating a motor vehicle under the influence, failure to obey stop sign, operating motor vehicle with unsafe tires, providing a false statement to police, manslaughter first degree, and manslaughter second degree.
Scrivano was arrested at his home in Lebanon on an arrest warrant for the incident, state police said.
The arrest came after state police said a green Chevrolet Silverado allegedly went through a stop sign without stopping and hit the left side of a Kia Soul as it was turning left from Kinney Road onto Millstream Road.
The driver of the Kia, identified as Karen Taylor, 65, of Mansfield, died from her injuries in the crash, according to state police.
According to an arrest warrant, the driver of the Silverado, registered to Scrivano, took off from the scene on foot, according to state police.
On the night of the crash, Scrivano called 911 to report that his truck had been stolen from the park and ride at Route 66 and Millstream Road at 1:13 a.m., the arrest warrant said. He also alleged that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs in a written statement.
State police said in the warrant that they later obtained evidence in their investigation that showed Scrivano visiting three bars, including the Lebanon Tap Room, The Hideaway, and Butterballs, where he "consumed multiple alcoholic drinks" at each restaurant, prior to the crash. Additionally, a blood test taken six hours after the collision suggested that he was under the influence of cannabis at the time.
According to the warrant, a camera outside an Exxon Mobil Gas station on Main Street in Hebron showed Scrivano driving a green truck toward the direction of Millstream Road at midnight, just three minutes before the collision was reported at 12:03 a.m.
Scrivano is expected to appear in Rockville Superior Court on April 15 and was held on a bond of $750,000.
