MANSFIELD, Conn. — A Mansfield teen was caught travelling 50-60 mph above the speed limit Tuesday morning and was charged with reckless driving, according to a release from Connecticut State Police.
State police report that the 19-year-old driver was clocked driving a white Dodge Charger SXT between 80 and 90 mph in a posted 30-mph zone on Chaffeeville Road. According to the release, a trooper assigned to Troop C in Tolland observed the driver maneuvering around sharp curves on the wet roadway at a high rate of speed around 9:34 a.m.
State police said the driver posed a danger to himself as well as other motorists and pedestrians in the area.
After activating his lights and sirens, the trooper pulled Roy over in the area of Mulberry Road without incident, state police said. The driver reportedly acknowledged that he was driving well over the speed limit.
He was taken into custody and brought to Troop C, where state police say he was processed and charged with reckless driving. He was released on a $2,500 cash/surety bond and will be arraigned at a later date.
