COVENTRY, Conn. — The Coventry Police Department arrested a man in an animal cruelty investigation Thursday after they said over 30 cats were recovered from a home.

Derek VanDoren, of Coventry, is facing a cruelty to animals charge and is expected in court on Oct. 9. Police said he was released on a non-surety bond.

Police said an investigation began after a community service officer received a report about an "abundance" of cats at a home on Carpenter Road.
