BOLTON, Conn — Connecticut State Police arrested a South Windsor man on Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted two people, including an older individual, in a home in Bolton.
Ryan Tomel, 35, of South Windsor, is facing charges of interfering with an officer/resisting, breach of peace in the second degree, disorderly conduct, violation of a protective order, assault in the third degree, assault in the third degree - elderly victim, threatening in the second degree, strangulation/suffocation in the third degree and unlawful restraint in the second degree.
He was held on a $200,000 bond and was scheduled to appear at Rockville Superior Court on Wednesday.
At 9:07 p.m. on Tuesday, state police from Troop K in Colchester responded to the home for a report of a domestic disturbance.
A victim outside the home told troopers that Tomel was intoxicated when he assaulted them and another family member in the residence, state police said.
The victim told state police that Tomel "often loses control when drinking."
As Tomel entered the home earlier in the evening, he allegedly began punching that individual and an older victim in the head and upper body and kicking them in the lower body area.
According to state police, Tomel placed the younger victim in a headlock as they fell behind a couch to escape the assault. While the victim was unable to breathe, Tomel allegedly threatened to shoot them and the elderly victim in the home.
Tomel then began punching and using a cane to hit the older victim, according to state police.
The younger victim told state police that they were the protected party of a protective order between them and Tomel.
Troopers assumed tactical positions outside the home due to Tomel likely being armed, according to state police.
As troopers called for him to exit the home, Tomel initially complied and went outside but then refused to cooperate with their commands, state police said.
Troopers eventually used a Taser to arrest Tomel after multiple warnings that he would be Tased if he didn't cooperate.
Both victims refused medical treatment, state police said.
