Man dies after being hit by car on Route 44 in Putnam: State police

The driver appeared uninjured but EMS brought them to Day Kimball Hospital for an evaluation.

PUTNAM, Conn — Connecticut State Police said they are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash on Route 44 in Putnam from Saturday night.

Based on a preliminary investigation, state police said the crash happened at 6 p.m. on Route 44 at the intersection of Waltham Avenue.

A 2019 Ford Fusion was traveling west on Route 44 when it hit Leo Blain, 68, who state police said was walking along the road at the time.

An ambulance brought Blain to Day Kimball Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Ford driver appeared uninjured but an EMS brought them to Day Kimball Hospital for an evaluation. 

State police are asking witnesses of the crash to contact TFC Matthew Siart #1410 from Troop D in Danielson by calling 860-779-4900 or by email at matthew.siart@ct.gov
