2 men arrested, charged in Woodstock home invasion, burglary

State police said the home invasion prompted a stand-off, and one of the suspects tried running from the home hours later.

WOODSTOCK, Conn. — Two men are facing charges after a home invasion and burglary in Woodstock on Wednesday, state police said. The incident caused a stand-off with state police and a temporary road closure in the area.

Police said a call came in around noon from a bystander who saw two men carrying baseball bats approaching a home on Woodstock Road. The men reportedly entered through a window into the second-floor apartment.

When troopers got to the home, they met with a woman who initially said there wasn't anyone else inside but then said three people were inside the home. The woman reportedly told troopers that two of the men entered the house, uninvited, through a side window and had a baseball bat and a handgun.

Over several hours, troopers tried to have the three people inside the home come out. Eventually, 39-year-old Reuben Field left the house and was taken into custody.

A few hours later, 37-year-old Mark Racine climbed out of the home through one of the windows and tried to run toward the trees but he was stopped and also taken into custody. Officials said a third person was not found inside the home.

State police said Field and Racine also drove to the home in a stolen vehicle.

Both men have been charged with home invasion, first-degree burglary, stealing a vehicle, interfering with an officer, and resisting arrest. Field and Racine were held on a $100,000 bond and are expected in Danielson Superior Court on Thursday.

In a message to residents nearby, Dr. Jeff Gordon, state senator, said, "I live near what is going on. I am thankful that my family, neighbors, and I are safe. A big thank you to the CSP and local public safety for the work they are doing, and I pray for them to be safe. I hope that all ends peacefully. Stay away from Woodstock Road and let law enforcement do the work they are doing."
