POMFRET, Conn. — A truck driver lost control of a tanker truck carrying liquid manure on Tuesday, damaging a car and a yard, according to Pomfret Fire Department Chief Brett Sheldon.
The fire department was called around 6:10 p.m. to Deerfield Road in Pomfret for a rollover crash involving a manure truck, Sheldon said, noting that Connecticut State Police, DEEP, the Putnam Fire Department and a medical crew were also sent to the scene.
The truck driver lost control while turning at the corner of Route 244 and Route 97 and hit a parked car, coming to a rest in a yard along the road, according to Sheldon.
The driver was responsive and taken for a medical evaluation with injuries, Sheldon said.
As a result of the crash, Sheldon noted that the car is a "total loss" and that an "extensive cleanup" along the front yard of the residence where it happened, as well the side yard of the neighbor's residence, will be needed.
Route 97 was closed in the area after the crash Tuesday.
While the cause of the crash is unknown, Sheldon said that speed "may have been a factor" but that state police will make the final determination.
The scene was later turned over to DEEP for fuel and vehicle fluids leaking, separate from the manure.
