THOMPSON, Conn. — A man was arrested on a sexual assault charge Monday following an Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) investigation into an incident in Thompson, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
EnCon police officers first responded to a report of a sexual assault in Thompson in July 2023, DEEP said. Police were told that it happened at the Little Pond Boat Launch.

Following an investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant for Jay Rankin of Old Saybrook on sexual assault charges. His charges also included public indecency, breach of peace 2nd degree, and prohibited activities in limited access areas.
DEEP said Jay Rankin of Old Saybrook turned himself in to state police at Troop D in Danielson and was expected to appear at Danielson Superior Court on a $50,000 bond.
No information was provided by DEEP on Rankin's age.
